PPC Tips #3 – Getting rid of Coffee Stains on the Carpet

PPC Tips #3 – Getting rid of Coffee Stains on the Carpet

April 22nd, 2020 by Matt Poole

Coffee stains can be a nightmare to remove from carpets, wooden furniture and many other surfaces and materials. Here’s what we recommend you do if you spill any coffee onto the carpet:

(1) Mop up the Coffee

Grab a clean white cloth and use it to mop up as much of the coffee spillage as you can. Press into every section of the stain until no more of the spilled coffee absorbs into the cloth. Make sure you don’t scrub the carpet, as this can damage and ruin the fibres in your carpet. Use a blotting or pressing motion from the outside of the stain into the middle, as this will ensure all the staining and moisture gets scooped up into the cloth.

(2) Apply cold water

Next you need to pour a small amount of cold water onto what’s left of the stain. Fetch a new clean white cloth to mop up the water (you might have to do this once or twice more to get the best results). Basically, you want to dilute the coffee with the water enough to soak it up in the cloth, but make sure you don’t use too much water as this will oversaturate the carpet.

Alternative solutions:

You can also make your own cleaner from household goods, saving money on buying additional commercial cleaning products. For example: combine one tablespoon liquid dish soap, one tablespoon white vinegar, and two cups warm water. Combine these in a dish and stir the solution with a spoon. You can apply this to the stain in a similar way to the method detailed earlier – your carpet will thank you!
